Twitter Is Losing Followers From India. Here's Why?

TECHNOLOGY

If Twitter believes that it can take Indians for granted, then that is the past, because most of them are switching to a new social media platform, Mastodon. What could be the reason for this decision?

Recently, Twitter has blocked Indian lawyer Sanjay Hegde's account over a specific flagged post. In fact, Hegde's account was suspended because he used a photo of a man who refused the Nazi greetings, which is a famous photo. A few minutes later, his account was suspended. This annoyed most of them and the Indians say, it is a biased train on the internet.

The reason why most Indians changed from Twitter to Mastodon. Other Indians also claim that Twitter has been misdirected because they have noticed that Twitter continue to review or verify people with rich backgrounds on the platform but deny verifying people who are not well-heeled.

However, Twitter tried to explicitize the issue at hand when it received a legal notification from Hegde to block his account. A few days later, Twitter tweeted, saying, "There's been a lot of discussion this week about Twitter's perceived bias in India. To be clear, whether it's the development of policies, product features, or enforcement of our Rules, we are impartial and do not take action based upon any ideology or political viewpoint".

This time, Mastodon might be lucky because the network has suddenly seen an increase from new users from the former East Indies.

Their support for the Attorney General seems to be unflinching, which is why Twitter users of Indian descent have made the decision to leave the network. Strangely, those who are leaving Twitter are highly capable people, including musicians, journalists and lawyers.

So what is mastodon?

Mastodon is a decentralized open source social networking platform that was launched in early 2016. It started as a killer on Twitter, but was unable to attract followers.

The idea behind Mastodon resembles Twitter. You can publish a short message named "Toots" with a 500 character limit, different from the 280 character limit on Twitter. Toots are displayed chronologically in the feed, and you can respond or enlarge the toots of others, which is equivalent to retweeting on Twitter.

But Mastodon's performance is different. Here, users can host their own servers, called 'Instance'. This separate server is connected as a federal social network so users from different servers and can interact with each other.
